Manchester Dog Show Society 2018

Judge – Mr D Howarth

To go through an entry without a single absentee on a dismal January day was indeed a pleasure. There were some promising youngsters on show. I was a little concerned about lack of breed type in heads. Large square heads with the desired deep stop were hard to find. I was pleased with overall conformation. There was no evidence of excessive weight or exaggeration in body.

Seven months and as you would expect, a little raw but in proportion. Balanced head with straight front, correct bite, good feet. Good depth of body for his age. Moved well away. Needs to settle and come on but should be fine. Showed better in the challenge.
2nd Anbrook Rhapsody In Blue - Brookshaw
Also, seven months heavier in type and stronger all through. Strong neck and well angulated shoulders. Well off for bone. Firm in topline. Well bodied for his age.

Four years, up to height but still balanced. Good head with enough shape and clean eyes. Strong neck of good length. Well laid shoulders. Strong well angulated quarters showing width and strength. Held his topline well on the move.
2nd Whissgig The Bristolian - Sheppard
Correctly balanced in head with clean eyes and good ear placement. Strong well boned legs. Good turn of stifle with hocks well let down, moved well enough but carried his tail a bit too high today.

Mature and well bodied 4-year-old. Well made through without being overdone. Good head with deep stop and square muzzle. Well off for bone. He has a strong neck and well laid shoulders. Good length of ribs with firm level top line. Good width of thigh and across his quarters. He moved well in the space available. In contention for top honours.
2nd Micklemess Making Music At Clumbadane - Rudbach
Lighter type but so honest and sound and good to go over. Well balanced head with clean eyes and good length of muzzle. Good length of neck. Straight in front with good shoulder angulation. Firm and level in topline. He moved really well.

Mature two-year-old, worthy Champion looking the part today. Good square head with good stop and well-set ears. Strong neck of good length flowed into well laid shoulders. Well-developed chest with good width and depth. Firm over his loins. Strong quarters with plenty of strength and width. Hocks are well let down giving correct rear angulation. He moved well showing plenty of drive. Well presented. CC and Best of Breed
2nd Sh Ch Winhampton Over The Yardarm Of Harrifield JW - Thorogood
Tricky decision here as this one also has a lot to like about him. Good head with deep stop and plenty of width. Straight front with good bone and round feet. Good width to his ribs and strength to his topline. Strong quarters with a good bend of stifle. He moved well, just not quite the coat of the winner today. RCC. I feel that both these two worthy Champions will improve further in the future.

I really fell for this 7-month baby. My notes say, “loved her”. Lovely head, feminine but with enough shape and width. Plenty of stop Straight front with good bone. Balanced body with good length of rib and firm couplings. Well angulated quarters with a good bend of stifle and plenty of width to her thighs. Correct in topline and tail set. She moved freely and soundly. Considered her for top honours but had to settle for Best Puppy. One I will watch.
2nd Anbrook Fair Maid Of Kent By Winhampton - Wilson
Also seven months and very different in type. Good neck and shoulders. Well off for bone, she has a good topline and plenty of strength in her quarters. She has a firm topline and moved well. Should go on to do well when her head breaks.

1st Sh Ch Mischievous Maeve With Maursett - Taylor
Worthy Champion looking well and performing well. She is feminine in head with defined stop and good length of muzzle. Straight front with enough bone and good feet. She has well angulated shoulders and a good depth to her ribs. She is firm over her couplings and well developed across her quarters. She won this class on her superior movement and went on to win the RCC.
2nd Winhampton Oops A Daisy - Wilson
Looked the part standing but not moving as well as I would have wanted today. Lovely neck and shoulders giving rise to a well-balanced body. She has good length and depth to her chest and holds her topline well both moving and standing. In lovely body and condition.

Almost 8 and still looking the part. I really liked her type and style. Substantial but no way can she be described as overdone. Good head with length of foreface and depth of stop. Super strong neck of good length and well angulated shoulders. Balanced body with good length of ribs. She is strong over her quarters with hocks well let down. She moved well in profile showing plenty of extension. In good coat and carrying the correct amount of body. Won the CC today but had to concede BoB to her kennel mate.
