Judge: Ms Eleanor Bryant
I would like to thank the committee for their forward thinking approach in putting these classes on at championship show level and for considering me worthy to judge them, a real honour. In terms of breed watch points, eyes and ears were in clean order and weight was generally well managed. One or two mouths were on the tight side and I would have liked to see more muscle tone. That said, I was delighted with my entry and the quality of exhibits - thank you to all those who entered. | Thank you to the Clumber Spaniel Club for the honour of being asked to judge the Special Awards and for their family-like hospitality. Thank you to all exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to judge their dogs. |
Special Puppy Dog/Bitch | 5 Entries, Absent: 2 |
1st | Maursett Mathos - Taylor |
A quality 12 month old dog who owned the ring from the moment he entered. Beautifully balanced head with no hint of exaggeration and perfect bite. Lovely reach of neck leading to well set shoulders. Deep chest, good spring of rib, short coupling and nice turn of stifle. Very positive on the move, driving round the ring, holding an exemplary topline and showing real character. Surely a title holder of the future.
2nd | Maursett Mycate at Kiswahili - Walkling |
Litter sister to 1 and shares many of her brother’s attributes, including good bone and tight round feet. Very mature for her age, just not quite as positive on the move as her brother today.
3rd | Suelynda Whirlybird - Boden |
At 7 ½ months, very much the baby of the class, but lots of potential.
Special Junior Dog or Bitch | 3 Entries, Absent: 1 |
Another quality class.
Wymeswold Doc - Bakker | |
Mature 10 ½ month old dog showing plenty of character. Pleasing head and clean outline. Good shoulders, plenty of bone and depth throughout. Good bend of stifle and lovely feet. Moved positively once settled, driving nicely from the rear.
Beskerby Luminescent - Dawson
13 month old bitch with a lovely, feminine head and good reach of neck. Pleasing shape, but I would like a little more bone and depth. Very well-muscled and covered the ground nicely. Needs time to mature, but one to watch in the future.
Special Post Graduate Dog/Bitch | 3 Entries, Absent: 1 |
A difficult class as both dogs made their handlers work hard and I felt neither moved to their full potential.
1st | Micklemess Fidelity - Terry and Pavitt |
2 year old bitch with deep chest and well sprung ribs. Short coupled with a strong topline. Reasonable angulation, excellent bone and tight feet.
2nd | Tweedsmuir Chenoa at Windfly - Grant |
2 year old bitch of finer build, but very nicely bodied with a clean outline. I preferred her head and neck to the winner’s, but her topline let her down today.
Special Open Dog/Bitch | 8 Entries, Absent: 2 |
Little to choose between the top three.
1st | Sh Ch Winhampton Over The Yardarm of Harrifield JW ShCM - Thorogood |
I had the pleasure of judging this dog before he gained his title and he definitely lives up to expectations. At 4 years old he has the most beautifully balanced, masculine head. Muscular neck, deep chest, good spring of rib and firm topline. Excellent angulation both front and rear. Moved true, covering the ground effortlessly as though he could go on all day.
2nd | Sh Ch Creeaark Fantastica - Hirst |
5 year old bitch with a stunning head and the most beautiful outline. Good reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders, nice ribs and a firm topline. Excellent bend of stifle which allowed her to stride out well once she settled. A lovely character and pushed hard for the top spot.
