Clumber Spaniel Club Championship Show 2017

Judge – Mr T Taylor

I am grateful to the members of the Clumber Spaniel Club for inviting me to judge at the breed club championship show which is, of course, a highlight for any judge. I was very sorry to hear that young Eddie Boden was taken ill during the show and had to be taken to hospital – I do hope that he has a quick recovery. It was pleasing to find nearly all exhibits with the correct bite and dentition, along with clean eyes and ears. Some were carrying a little too much weight for my liking and lacked muscle tone. Rear movement is also an area of concern that breeders must pay attention to.

1st Tavirosh Stonewall - Charlesworth-Ironside
Two very different types and a close decision between 1 and 2. Clean eyes, correct scissor bite, enough turn of stifle, Still has a fair amount of maturing to do and would prefer a little more of him.
2nd Marshalver Moon River - Boden
Pleasing head and expression, clean eyes and well boned with good rear angulation. Lost out in front movement to 1.

1st Spanaffy Stiegel Goldbrau - Whiffin
This one could benefit from some determined ringcraft lessons and needs to slow down when on the move – rather like the beer from which his name is derived there is a little too much fizz! He has clean eyes, and (when eventually seen) a scissor bite. He was a little lose on the move and needs to mature.

Correct scissor bite, eyes and ears were clean. Straight front, good depth of chest and well boned, sufficient turn of stifle and tight feet. Did not move to his best today.

Judges will often talk of the need to lay hands on exhibits to truly appreciate their merits and this dog is a case in point. He is a sound example of the breed, with a good masculine head, clean eyes, scissor bite and correct reach of neck, leading to good layback of shoulders. Deep chest and ribs going well back, short over the loin with well bent stifles. He is without excess, and muscle tone is excellent. Soundness of construction results in a dog that is able to power around the ring with ease
2nd Whissgig Daddy Cool - Sheppard
Another quality dog, beautifully presented. Good dark eyes, well boned and a good length to body. I would prefer a little more masculinity and he was unlucky to come up against the movement of 1.
3rd Creeaark Artreyu - Hirst
4th Doctor Rashleigh At Ranzham - Hyman

1st Anbrook Burma Star At Brazenhill JW ShCm - Newsham
One I have admired from ringside and who certainly did not disappoint. He was presented in good condition with a masculine head, but not OTT. Clean eyes, scissor bite, correct ear shape and strength to neck. Good depth of chest, length of body and rear angulation is good. Moved well
2nd Sh Ch Winhampton Over The Yardarm Of Harrifield JW ShCm - Thorogood
Another pleasing exhibit. Overall, a taller dog than 1. He has dark eyes, scissor bite, a good topline but not the movement of 1 today.

One I have awarded top honours to previously and who continues to impress. He is presented impeccably and is in terrific coat. He has a masculine head, with dark eyes, scissor bite, sufficient reach of neck, good layback of shoulders, depth of ribs and length to body. In spite of now being a veteran, he can still cut the mustard (and more). He is a credit to the breed.

1st Micklemess Just Looking - Croft
A feminine, eight months old bitch, with good eyes, scissor bite and tight feet. She is not exaggerated in any way, but inevitably needs to mature. Moved ok.

1st Micklemess Frivolous at Ranzham - Hyman
A bitch that demonstrated a remarkable propensity to empty her bladder. She nevertheless has a scissor bite, with good bone and length to body. Moved ok.
2nd Tweedsmuir Calfuray - Monaghan
Youngster (just over 13 months of age), with a pretty feminine head. She has a scissor bite, clean eyes and good length to body. Just needs to mature.

Not exaggerated in any way, with a good length of body. Would like to see her move outdoors as she was not at all enthusiastic in the hall today.
Graduate Bitch Entries 2, Absent: 1
1st Tweedsmuir Kotton Kandi - Monaghan
A very pleasing, pretty feminine bitch. Clean dark eyes, scissor bite. Strong neck, good shoulder placement, length of back and turn of stifle. Moved well.

2nd Anbrook Violette - Brookshaw
Pleasing bitch with a pretty head, clean eyes, plenty of bone, good depth of chest and ribs that go well back, along with correct angulation to the rear quarters. Did not move as well as I suspect she can which was a pity.

1st Whinhampton Oops A Daisy - Wilson
Well presented and demonstrating a good topline. She has clean dark eyes, good ear set and strength in neck and has good bone. Not exaggerated in any way, but I am sure that she could move better than she did today.
2nd Suelynda Pride Of Our Alley - Boden
Another nicely constructed bitch without any exaggerations. Good eye shape, scissor bite and balanced proportions. She did seem a tad nervous today.
3rd Whissgig All That Jazz - Sheppard

1st Sh Ch/Ir Sh Ch Richley Ready To Rock with Antonine Sh CM - McGillivray & Curry
I have seen this bitch in better coat, but hands on she really excels. She has such a pretty, feminine head and expression, with clean, dark eyes, scissor bite, strong neck, good layback of shoulders and straight front. She has a good depth of chest and length of rib, good coupling and strong rear quarters, with good turn of stifle. Her movement reflected her construction and she powered her way round the ring.
2nd Sh Ch Creeark Fantastica - Hirst
Presented in good hard condition, this bitch has a pleasing head and expression and a balanced construction. She did not move as well as I have seen before, but a quality bitch nevertheless.
3rd Sh Ch Heaven Suelynda Heaven Sent - Boden

1st Sh Ch Tweedsmuir Beautiful Dream Among Suelynda JW Sh CM - Boden
Another I have judged before and she continues to impress. She is beautifully presented and has an appealing head and expression, good neck and topline. Front and rear construction is correct and she moved well.
2nd Sh Ch Anbrook Skylark At Brazenhill JW Sh CM - Newsham
Another veteran who genuinely belies here age. She has an appealing head and expression. She did not move as well as I have seen before, but a quality bitch nevertheless.
3rd Micklemess Bella Rosa - Croft
Special Working Dog Entries 1, Absent: 1
A well muscled dog, with scissor bite and clean eye. I would have preferred a little more substance to him overall. Moved ok.
