| I am grateful to the members of the Clumber Spaniel Club for inviting me to judge at the breed club championship show which is, of course, a highlight for any judge. I was very sorry to hear that young Eddie Boden was taken ill during the show and had to be taken to hospital – I do hope that he has a quick recovery. It was pleasing to find nearly all exhibits with the correct bite and dentition, along with clean eyes and ears. Some were carrying a little too much weight for my liking and lacked muscle tone. Rear movement is also an area of concern that breeders must pay attention to. | |

| Judges will often talk of the need to lay hands on exhibits to truly appreciate their merits and this dog is a case in point. He is a sound example of the breed, with a good masculine head, clean eyes, scissor bite and correct reach of neck, leading to good layback of shoulders. Deep chest and ribs going well back, short over the loin with well bent stifles. He is without excess, and muscle tone is excellent. Soundness of construction results in a dog that is able to power around the ring with ease | |
