LKA 2016

Judge – Mr Ian Layfield (Dockwray)

Let me start by saying how delighted I was to see my BOB win the Gundog group, a brilliant end to 2016 for the owners and the breed. I wish I'd hung around to watch. On the day, I was impressed by my major winners and pleased with most of my exhibits. It is obvious from the last time I judged the breed 3 and a half years ago, that exhibitors are now addressing Breed Watch Points of Concern. All the dogs had clean ears and good eyes and none were excessively overweight. However, for my liking some were rather heavy over their shoulders which spoilt a clean outline. Except for one level bite all shown had correct mouths, but there were a few with small teeth.

1st Tavirosh Stonewall - Charlesworth-Ironside
7 months old. At this stage his head is developing but he has a nice broad skull and lovely eyes. He has a deep chest and a reasonable front. Good length of body and a broad croup along with his typical 'puppy' movement was pleasing. Lovely tail carriage.

1st Anbrook Burma Star At Brazenhill - Newsham
14 months old. I have watched him with interest from the ringside. His head is good, broad and with a deep stop. Lovely expression. His front is true, has round well-padded feet and strong bone throughout. A good length of neck and body with defined hindquarters and low set hocks gave a pleasing, typical outline. Moved like a Clumber should and well deserved the RCC.

These two were very different in type.
1st Delsaux Ray Of Light - Taylor
3 years old and still has time to mature. His head is lacking in stop which spoils a rather nice expression. His front is good as are his feet, well angulated shoulders, and hindquarters. He has a lovely tail carriage when moving but lacked some drive.
2nd Micklemess Sunseeker - Jukes
3 and a half years old and well developed. He has a strong head. His front is OK but was well down on his pasterns. Lovely length of body which was a little too well covered for my liking. Good hindquarters and low hocks. He moved OK.

I have seen these two look better.
1st Stonielea Just William - Steele
3 and a quarter years old. He has a good head and a typical expression. A good length of neck, long back, broad croup and defined hindquarters gives a nice outline. More depth of body would be good but he still has time. Moved well.
2nd Creeaark Artreyu - Hirst
3 and a half years old. He has a strong, masculine head. His front is good but another slightly down on his pasterns. Well boned throughout. He has good length and hindquarters and I liked his movement, though somewhat laboured.

3 and half years old. Really liked him from the moment he walked in. A true and typical Clumber dog. Gorgeous head and expression, perfect eyes. His front is true and his feet are well padded. He has a lovely length of neck, a deep chest, a strong back and broad croup. His hindquarters are strong and well defined. Lovely bone. It goes without saying that this was the best presented exhibit on the day. He moves exactly as a Clumber should. My choice for CC and BOB.
2nd Sh Ch Winhampton Over The Yardarm Of Harrifield JW - Thorogood
2 and a quarter years old. A strong head and a masculine expression. What he has is a good straight front, lovely shoulders and enough length. He is broad across the croup. What he needs now is time to complete what I believe will be a pleasing picture. Moved well.

The absentee was the winner of LD who, however, decided to come in for the challenge and therefore had to be disregarded.

1st Suelynda Diamonds R'Forever at Francfief - Heaume
7 months old. She has a lovely head and a sweet expression. Her front is good. A pleasing outline for one so young and she moved well for her age. What she does need is lots of time.
2nd Tavirosh Blarney Stone At Saffrarnie - Scaife
8 months old. She is a different type to 1 and her head is plainer but has a pleasing expression. Good bone, nice feet, length of body and strong hindquarters. She was carrying too much weight for one so young.

9 months old. Really liked her head and good eyes. Plenty of heart room and depth throughout. Her outline was very pleasing and she has well developed hindquarters for one so young. Moved very well with good tail carriage.

1st Micklemess Magic Flute - Walton
13 months old. She has a feminine head. Her shoulders, depth and length of body are good and has strong hindquarters. Moved well and was another with good tail carriage. However, I would have liked more bone throughout.

1st Mischievous Maeve With Maursett - Taylor
Approaching 2 years old and one I have watched with interest. I really liked her typical, feminine head and soft expression. She has a good length of neck and clean shoulders. These, plus good depth of chest, length of body, strong hindquarters and low set hocks present a pleasing, balanced outline. She moved well, so typical.
2nd Micklemess Sunny Dawn - Page
3 and a half years old. Another I consider of correct type. She too has a good head and expression. Her neck is strong and she has well set shoulders leading into a firm topline. Her hindquarters are well muscled and looked as though she could move all day.

1st Richley Ready To Rock With Antonine Sh Cm - Mcgillivray & Currie
3 years old.A beautiful bitch with one of the best heads and expressive eyes. She has excellent bone, a good front, and lovely feet. A very clean neck and good shoulders leads to a level back and she has depth throughout. She presents a pleasing picture both standing and on the move. In great coat and condition so I was pleased to award her another BCC.
2nd Sh Ch Sugar Loaf Maya Of Tikal Nord Jv-11 (Imp) - Page
5 and a half years old. Another I have always liked. She too has a lovely, typical head and feminine expression. Her front is good as is her bone. Her back is strong and her hindquarters are well defined and muscled. Her movement is unexaggerated, so Clumber-like.

1st Sh Ch Tweedsmuir Beautiful Dream Among Suelynda JW - Boden
8 years old. One of my all-time favourites. She is carrying her age well and has not lost that beautiful head and expression. Her front is so straight and has good feet to carry her. Her outline is great with good length and defined hindquarters. When she moved today she was slightly lame but her virtues far outweighed this and she could not be denied
2nd Sh Ch Winhampton Morag Mae - Wilson
8 years old. A different type to 1. Her head is pleasing as is her expression. She also has good bone, depth, length, and well angulated hindquarters. In good condition. Moved with purpose and another who defies her age.
